Special educational needs
At the Abbey VC Junior School we aim to provide an environment and experiences, which will encourage each child’s development and increase knowledge. This applies to all pupils across the ability range.
The school’s S.E.N. policy complies with the requirements of the D.f.E.S’s (Department for Education and Skills) Code of Practice. This outlines the procedures for the identification and assessment of special educational needs and the involvement of staff and governors in addressing those needs. These include a range of needs such as learning, emotional and behavioural difficulties.
Children with special educational needs are given additional support. Help is provided individually or in a small group. We currently have seven Teaching Assistants to carry out this work. Parents are kept informed at all stages of the work undertaken.
The school receives additional support and advice from IPS (Inclusion and Pupil Support Service) and other agencies.
