Personal, Social and Health Education

A programme of Personal, Social and Health Education (which promotes the children’s well being) is taught throughout the school.  Sex education is included in this programme.

The Governors support the right of all children to sex education appropriate to their age and understanding, which offers exploration of emotions, feelings and personal values in the context of family life, of loving relationships and with respect for others within a moral framework.

In the junior school, Sex Education will be a beginning of a lifelong process, which will be developmental and progressive.  At the Abbey School Sex Education will be specifically taught in addition to the times when opportunities arise as a result of other activities.  Where possible, Sex Education should be taught as an extension of the work covered in the National Curriculum.

Any parents wishing to withdraw their child from sex education should consult the Headteacher.
